Description:
|
The Caring School Community (CSC) program is designed to strengthen the connections between families, schools, classrooms, teachers, and students. By creating a trusting and respectful environment, students as well as parents, feel more involved in the school community. This increased involvement boosts students' motivation to learn, promotes parental interest in student learning, and fosters caring student-student, student-teacher, and teacher-parent relationships. The CSC program has four components: 1) a set of Class Meeting Lessons - one set of 30 lessons for kindergarten and grade one, and another set of 35 lessons for grades two through six; 2) a Schoolwide Community-Building Activities manual for all grades, 3) a Cross-Age Buddies Activity Book for all grades; and 4) a Homeside Activities workbook for each grade level from kindergarten through grade six. Each grade level-specific Homeside Activities workbook contains 18 Homeside Activities for students to complete with the help of a family member. These activities foster communication at home and link school learning with home experiences and perspectives.
