The California Department of Education (CDE), Safe And Healthy Kids Program Office (SHKPO) maintains a list of Science-Based Programs to guide the implementation of policy for using federal and state prevention funds for alcohol, tobacco, drug, and violence prevention (i.e. Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act (SDFSC) Title IV funds and Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) funds). Science-Based prevention programs are those programs whose evidence of effectiveness on changing students’ behaviors related to alcohol use, tobacco use, drug use, disruptive behavior, or violence has been recognized by any one of the following agencies:
Learn about the California Department of Education’s minimum standards for NREPP ratings.
Only those Research-Validated, Blueprint, or NREPP rated programs that meet the California Department of Education’s minimum standards for NREPP ratings that also meet the following criteria are included on the list:
- prevent alcohol use, tobacco use, drug use, disruptive behavior, or violence; and
- target students in one or more grades K-12
