Description: This Research-Validated substance abuse prevention program targets at-risk students living in residential facilities. The program combines screening and assessment of residents for personal and family substance use with individual and group counseling. Participants in this program also experience four small group prevention education sessions about being an adolescent; alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; family pressures and problems; and skills for coping. The implementation manual includes administrative strategies for implementing the program and clinical strategies for implementing the screening and assessment, teaching the prevention education sessions, and providing individual and group counseling.
