Description:

This Research-Validated curriculum promotes empathy, impulse control, and anger management skills. Students also learn to identify others' feelings and interpret how these feelings affect perceptions. Reading recommendations, posters, lesson cards, guides, and videos are included. Reviewers' Notes:
|
The lesson plans are well-designed and easy to follow. The curricula are based on Bandura's social learning theory and models of social processing. Students explore and react more effectively to the interaction between feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Students enjoy working together on group projects and in role-playing activities. The Family Guide video focuses on improving parents' abilities to help their children develop empathy skills, impulse control, and anger management. This would be effective for parent and staff meetings. Most of the children in the video appear to be from the upper middle class. The staff training video is excellent and can be the centerpiece of a group workshop or viewed individually. Teachers will probably get the most out of it if they view segments, teach some lessons, and then view the tape again. It can also be used by non-teaching staff at a school site to improve conflict management skills.
